FootGolf is most commonly played as an individual sport. The FIFG World Club Trophy offers players something different: the opportunity to compete alongside their teammates, represent their club and pursue an international title together.
Following the successful introduction of the competition in 2025, the World Club Trophy will return in 2027 as a global team match-play event designed to strengthen FootGolf clubs and develop national and regional club competitions.
The Federation for International FootGolf is pleased to present the official Competition and Qualification Guidelines for the FIFG World Club Trophy 2027.
The World Final will be held in Europe between September and December 2027, bringing together 16 qualified clubs from all five FIFG regions.
Regional allocation
Each FIFG region is guaranteed at least one place. The remaining places have been distributed proportionally according to the number of FIFG licences registered in each region in 2025.
The confirmed allocation is:
- Europe: 8 clubs
- South America: 3 clubs
- North America: 2 clubs
- Asia-Pacific: 2 clubs
- Africa: 1 club
As the World Final will be held in Europe, the host Member Country will receive one club place within Europe’s allocation of eight. This place will not increase the total number of participating clubs, meaning that seven additional European clubs will qualify through the approved regional process.
Following the receipt and evaluation of the submitted bid documents, FIFG expects to confirm and officially inform the selected host Member Country by 15 October 2026.
The qualification pathway
Qualification for the World Club Trophy will take place through three stages:
- National qualification: Each Member Country will establish and publish its national club competition or qualification system.
- Regional Qualification: Eligible clubs will advance through the process approved by their respective FIFG region.
- World Final: The 16 qualified clubs will compete for the FIFG World Club Trophy.
Each Member Country and region will be responsible for communicating its competition format, eligibility requirements, calendar and qualification deadlines.
The World Club Trophy will operate on a two-year cycle, with the year preceding each World Final serving as the principal qualification year.
A team format designed for every club to compete
The 16 clubs will be drawn into four groups of four. Each club will play three group-stage matches before advancing to one of four position-based brackets.
Group winners will compete for positions 1-4, while the remaining clubs will enter the corresponding placement brackets for positions 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16.
This format guarantees that:
- Every club plays five team matches.
- Every club remains active throughout the competition.
- All 16 clubs receive a final position.
- The preferred event duration is four days, with five days established as the absolute maximum.
Each club may register between six and 15 players, with six starting players participating in each team match.
The combination of individual, Fourball and Foursomes games will require teamwork, strategy and shared responsibility, creating a competition experience that is very different from a traditional individual FootGolf tournament.
Women participation and club development
The Women’s Individual match will be mandatory at national qualification, Regional Qualification and World Final level.
This requirement is an important part of FIFG’s commitment to supporting female participation and ensuring that club development takes place throughout the entire competition pathway.
For the 2027 cycle, participating clubs must also demonstrate active youth and/or female development through a registered junior player, a registered female player or a documented development initiative recognized by their Member Country.
Players must hold at least a valid FIFG Recreation Licence during national qualification. From Regional Qualification onward, every participating player must hold a valid FIFG World Tour Licence.
Building the future of FootGolf clubs
The World Club Trophy is intended to become more than a single international competition. It provides players with the opportunity to compete together, build a shared club identity and experience the excitement of representing their teammates on the world stage.
At the same time, it is designed to encourage sustainable club structures, regular domestic competitions and stronger connections between players, clubs, Member Countries and FIFG regions.
The Guidelines also identify future development priorities, including increased female participation, an Official FIFG Club Platform and a potential Club Competition Solidarity Fund. These future measures remain subject to FIFG Board approval and, where applicable, separate regulations.
