A historic milestone for international FootGolf as 22 nations come together to celebrate the future of the sport.
Today marks a landmark moment in the history of FootGolf as the first-ever FIFG Youth World Cup officially opened in Gahlenz, Germany.
With 22 nations representing South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, this inaugural championship is the largest international Youth FootGolf event ever organized. Nearly 300 young FootGolf athletes, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters gathered for the Opening Ceremony, celebrating not only the beginning of an exciting competition but also the bright future of our sport.
The FIFG Youth World Cup was created with one clear objective: to promote, inspire and strengthen youth development in FootGolf worldwide. Bringing together young FootGolf athletes from different countries, cultures and continents demonstrates the unique ability of our sport to unite people through friendship, respect and fair play while creating unforgettable international experiences for the next generation.
Addressing the participants during the Opening Ceremony, FIFG President Aleks Kravanja reflected on the vision that has guided the Federation’s work over the past three years:
“From the very first day of my presidency, youth development has been my highest priority. I am grateful that the entire FIFG Board believed in and supported this vision from the beginning. Together, we understood that investing in young players means investing in the future of FootGolf. Today we are witnessing a historic milestone that belongs to our entire FootGolf family.”
When President Aleks Kravanja assumed the presidency, there were only 23 active youth players within the FIFG family. Through the commitment of the FIFG Board, the dedication of all member countries, and the outstanding leadership of Sophie Magnussen, FIFG Board Member and Chair of the Youth Development Committee, the FIFG Youth Development Programme has grown to nearly 500 active youth players in just three years.
Beyond the programme itself, youth FootGolf has experienced remarkable global growth. Today, the FIFG community counts more than 3,200 youth players worldwide, with particularly impressive progress across Africa, where ambitious development programmes and activation initiatives are making the continent a global leader in youth FootGolf development.
This remarkable progress demonstrates what can be achieved through vision, collaboration and long-term commitment. The FIFG believes that the first Youth World Cup will further accelerate this momentum, inspiring thousands more young people to discover FootGolf and encouraging national federations to continue investing in youth development for years to come.
Special recognition was also given to the German FootGolf Association and its President, Rene Schmidt. During the past nine months, the German federation has undergone an impressive transformation, rebuilding its organisation, expanding its membership and establishing a highly dedicated and active board. Their passion, professionalism and tireless work have made this historic championship possible.
The Opening Ceremony celebrated much more than the start of a tournament. It celebrated the shared vision of a global FootGolf community committed to developing the next generation of players and creating opportunities for young athletes from around the world to compete, learn and build lifelong friendships.
As the first balls are kicked in Gahlenz, the inaugural FIFG Youth World Cup already stands as one of the defining milestones in the history of the Federation and a powerful symbol of the bright future of international FootGolf.
